everyday people sharing everyday lives...  'family'

The origin 'Mother’s Day' date back to the times of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Mother’s Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia.  Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother Ann Reeves.  She then began a campaign to make the Mother’s Day a national holiday and she succeeded in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the second Sunday of May a Mother’s Day.  Today this holiday is celebrated in more than 150 countries around the world but on different dates.  In many African countries the celebration is March 21. Mother’s Day is the biggest day for phone calls in the US.  And it is the most popular day of the year to dine out with almost 40% of consumers doing so.  And 30% more is spent on Mother’s day than on Father’s Day.
